What is detoxifying, and why should we consider it?
There is no doubt, our world is far different than it was hundreds of years ago. Industrialization began in the 1700s and resulted in many technological advancements — but also environmental pollution, the effects of which were not known until much later.
These toxins put great stress on our bodies, and the impacts are far reaching. But the good news is we can do something about it.
Environmental Toxins
Today, over 87,000 chemicals have been approved for commercial use since the 1970s.* Many have leaked into our soil and water supply. This doesn’t even touch the pollution we experience on a daily basis from car and airplane emissions!
Some of these chemicals don’t even break down such as PFOAs, substances highlighted by the movie Dark Waters starring Mark Ruffalo and Anne Hathaway. In this movie depicting the real life story, Ruffalo plays Robert Bilott, a lawyer who discovers how a West Virginia town is being impacted by chemicals disposed of by DuPont, the town’s primary employer.
After hours of research, he enters a painfully long legal battle with DuPont, eventually resulting in million and billion-dollar settlements.
Today, nearly every individual in America has PFOAs in their bloodstream, similar to the pervasiveness of glyphosate, the toxic compound found in the herbicide Roundup.
According to Dr. Minkoff, the creator of Perfect Amino, toxins in our world “stress our nervous system, raise cortisol levels, mess up our hormones, directly damage or kill cells, and even cause trouble for our unborn children.”
Toxins have a very real impact on our health!
Bacterial Infections
In addition to toxic chemicals in the environment, bacteria-related illness such as Lyme disease has become a huge problem, affecting millions of people in the US. Many people may have Lyme disease or similar confections without any symptoms or much disruption to their lives. They may be fortunate and never need to deal with debilitating symptoms, but issues are likely to arise as they age and the body becomes less adept at dealing with the toxic overload in our world.
Some estimates report Lyme as affecting as much as 70% of the US population, and the figure makes complete sense after having read the book Bitten. Autoimmune disease is highly correlated to Lyme, and many doctors are unaware of how to recognize Lyme, test for Lyme or safely treat it. (Read our article about how to test for and treat Lyme here.)
One big component to successful Lyme treatment is herbal detoxification.
